About The Festival

In May, 2003  a meeting of representatives from eight local choirs/groups decided to form an association in order to  organise an annual event on the Sunshine Coast. (Previously  Chancellor Park Hibiscus Village & Coolum Civic Centre had been venues for at least two events.)

A committee of four was formed and a Mission Statement agreed:

“The objects of the Association are for choirs of the Sunshine Coast to gather together to foster fellowship & interaction between choirs for the enjoyment of music, & to raise the profile of choral music.”

From 2004 to 2013 the Festival was held at the Baptist Centre, Wises Rd., North Buderim, and in 2014 it moved too the Lake Kawana Community Centre.

Since incorporation on 8th December, 2005 as the Sunshine Coast Choral Festival Assn. Inc., voluntary committees formed from representative members of local choirs/groups have continued  to work together to organise the Festivals.

Host Choirs assisted with much of the organisation for and on the day of the Festival for a few years, but since 2007 the event has been organised entirely by the voluntary association committee.

The Choral Festival has become a highlight of the year for many choirs and their musical directors. It is a wonderful opportunity to share in our musical fellowship and the afternoon concert is always well supported by our friends and the wider public. There is a tradition of singing as a massed choir at the end of the concert (after a brief rehearsal in the morning) culminating with the thunderous rendition of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. The quality of the music is a credit to The Sunshine Coast  Region and showcases the varied genres of music sung by choirs/groups within our community.
